FIFA WORLD CUP 2022: QATAR TO THE UNITED STATES?

It was rumored earlier this week that, the major sponsors of the world cup including SONY, VISA, ADIDAS, COCA-COLA and HYUNDAI have turned the heat on FIFA to investigate allegations by the Sunday Times newspaper that corruption and bribery played a part in the decision to award the hosting of the 2022 world cup to Qatar.

Sunday Times alleged that the disgraced former vice president of football governing body, Mohammed bin Hamman paid over $5m to win support in the Qatar bidding process. The decision to award the hosting to Qatar was a bit controversial from the beginning. Many expressed concerned of the weather and Qatars inability to hit a high point in football as well as the dim history of football itself in Qatar. These allegations came as no surprised to may football hopefuls.

Mohmmed Hamman

The biggest bombshell was released when words came out that FIFA is planing of moving the hosting of the flagship competition to the USA in case Qatar is stripped of it.
This has been denied by both FIFA and Gulati president of US SOCCER FEDERATION that FIFA have not approach the US to prepare to host the prestigious event in 2022. Meanwhile FIFA is expected to come out with its findings about the allegations in July.

MY TAKE: Qatar is a dominant force in football. The Emirate supports many football teams around the world...Real Madrid, Arsenal, AC Milan etc. Manchester city is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi. They deserve every right to host it legitimately.
